Shades of Shirley Horn is singer Coniece Washington’s wonderful tribute to the late, great singer-pianist Shirley Horn. Washington, who possesses an elegant voice and clarity of delivery, deftly takes on many of songs most associated with Horn. Some fantastic musicians back the vocals on the effort, including pianist Vince Evans, bassist Wes Biles, trumpeter Thad Wilson, guitarist David B. Cole, flutist Carl Carrington, and percussionist Kevin Kojo Prince. Poet Seth Washington provides a nice spoken word intro to the production. A truly wonderful work.
